Conversation with Gisbert Glaser of ICSU

Post by Douglas F. Williamson

On Saturday at the Fair Ideas Conference, I had the chance to talk with Gisbert Glaser, Senior Advisor at the International Council for Science (ICSU). I've met Gisbert on several occasions and he is always lucid and articulate on the importance of science to solving problems of global importance. He also has recognized for many years the necessity of bridging the science-policy divide, a communications gap between the science community and decision makers. Due to his efforts, in part, the science and policy communities have been coming ever closer and over the next ten years under the Future Earth research project, they will come even closer, which is urgently needed. The Earth Charter has its place to play in this exchange and it will be interesting to see how values and ethics will inform the science-policy interface in the wake of Rio+20.

Have a look at this video conversation and let us know what you think.
