Yesterday, I attended the 'Youth Involvement for Sustainable Development' event at the German Pavilion where global youth in Rio had a chance to share and discuss what they have been doing in the lead up to Rio+20 and what their plans are beyond the conference in regards to Youth and Sustainable Development. I presented the Earth Charter Youth Network and talked about the online webinar series we have been conducting on the Earth Charter and Rio+20, as well as the online short courses that have been taking place over the last year.
The session ended with a roundtable discussion about our plans and expectations for the summit and what we could do collectively as the youth who are present in Rio. So far, we have come up with doing a flash mob, dressing in black, as if to appear in mourning, outside of the heads of states gatherings outside of the summit. The MGCY is also currently collecting action-oriented ideas around what youth can do to influence the Rio+20 negotiations and for sure something will be done to demonstrate our commitment to building a more sustainable world, even if people don't want to take us seriously!
